Depicted in this relief is the secret ritual of the Elusinian Mysteries. The "mysteries" have later been researched and analyzed by academics of stature, such as Albert Hoffmann and Alexander and Anne Shulgin. The most convincing conclusion, in my mind, is that the key role of participating in the "mysteries" included taking a dose of the kykeon, created from the grain fungus ergot, a compound which shares innumerable properties with LSD.
